All about Books
This is the page where I will be discussing what I'm reading, reviewing those books and be open to suggestions to keep adding to my To Be Read pile. Honestly, I'm never going to get through that thing anyway, so the more the merrier.
My second book review today is for 'Radio Silence' by Alice Oseman. This is actually for the re-read I've just finished this morning and though this will be a short review, it will be more coherent than my first one. :)
The cover was originally what caught my eye and then the blurb sounded too good to pass on. The first time I read this book when it came out happened in approximately six hours. It's rare that I read a book all in one day, but it had to happen with this one. My re-read took two, but that's because I managed to venture into the world outside of my bedroom.
Title: Radio Silence
Author: Alice Oseman
Part of a trilogy: No, it's a standalone
Original publication date: 25th February 2016 (UK)/28th March 2017 (US)
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars (Read June 2016/Re-read September 2017)
Even though it took me a bit longer to read this time around, I remembered why I love this book so much. I cried again, I laughed again, I recommend this book to everyone.
The amount of diversity is wonderful and the characters are (mostly) the same. The plot is also great and I've begun listening to the Welcome to Night Vale podcast because of this book. There are also many references to literature/film/TV that I understood from my childhood or even not so long ago, which makes it still more relatable. Being set in England is great for me, though I'm in the north, but I don't think it will be a problem for any non-British readers.
When I read it when it came out last year, I was in my second year of university, so lots of it was relevant to me. Now I'm a uni graduate, it's still relevant, since a main theme is to follow your dreams and do what makes you happy, even when everyone else says you shouldn't.
Still a solid 5 stars- and will always be from me. I love this book so much- if you haven't been able to tell yet! :)
Let me know your opinions if you've read it. All the best and happy reading.
Hi, I'm an animal lover and have a degree. You can usually find me either reading or writing. Failing that, I might have actually ventured into the outside world...
