All about Books
This is the page where I will be discussing what I'm reading, reviewing those books and be open to suggestions to keep adding to my To Be Read pile. Honestly, I'm never going to get through that thing anyway, so the more the merrier.
In this review, I'm talking about Our Dark Duet- which I finished today actually. :) As it hasn't been out long, I'm putting a disclaimer on for very minor spoilers to follow from both books.
Title: Our Dark Duet
Author: V E Schwab
Part of a trilogy: No, book 2 in the Monsters of Verity duology
Original publication date: 13th June 2017
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars (Read September 2017)
It doesn't feel like two months since I read This Savage Song, but it apparently is. Also, this time around, I wasn't on holiday and couldn't sit and read it all in two or three sittings. But I still loved this.
This started off with Kate now in Prosperity, which seemed to be a slightly less risky version of Verity, with a few new characters, who I kind of missed after a while. But this war was always going to be waged in Verity and Verity only. So much had changed for Kate in the six months between books, yet she faced it as she always has- and I really liked her character.
Speaking of my favourites, August and Ilsa were also up there. I could talk a lot more about our wonderful, precious August, but...anyway. I'm glad Allegro was in this book too; books need more animals, particularly cats. Soro was a great addition to the Flynns and it's nice to see a non-binary character added. Soro easily held their own and didn't need anyone's protection.
One notable thing in Our Dark Duet was how everything was stepped up- including the violence. But there is more at stake in this book compared to the first- even though it is a YA book- but there is a war. And yes, the English versions do have a few typos, as has also been pointed out. I found two or three. It's a bit jarring, but I've found more in some books.
Overall, I've rated both books of this duology with a full five stars. I think I've found my new author of the year and am now wondering why I waited so long to pick up them.
Now, onto her other series...
I mentioned this on my first Top Ten Tuesday post and have now read it. So for all of the other V. E. Schwab fans out there, what are your opinions on this book and the overall duology?
Happy reading and all the best. :)
Hi, I'm an animal lover and have a degree. You can usually find me either reading or writing. Failing that, I might have actually ventured into the outside world...
